Using the ClassPad

How does it work without syntax? What is drag and drop? »

The ClassPad employs the use of an 'Interactive' Menu. Being interactive, it is hard to 'see' it work on paper, so watch this short movie. This movie will also introduce you to the ClassPads drag and drop functionality - something you just can't see on paper.

How can you work with, and between, two applications? »

The ClassPad allows you to have two applications open at one time, and also allows you to work between them, dragging elements from one into another. This opens up amazing learning opportunities never seen before.

It is often hard to get students to appreciate multiple representations of things mathematical. Now, as a result of a users actions, the geometric, algebraic and numeric forms of the same critter can rapidly be seen alongside one another. Watch the following short movie to see this in action - it can not be shown on paper.

Is it totally free of syntax? »

Almost. With OS 3.0 released, almost all of the commonly used functions are free of syntax. Why not download a 30-day trial version and this introductory booklet (.pdf, 200kb) to see it in action

What is an eActivity? »

An eActivity is like a Word document except you can embed in it ClassPad strips. The strips are actually areas in which the functionality of the ClassPad can be used, eg. the CAS, graphing and so on.

They can be used to present students with assignments, learning opportunities or in fact to build your own simple software (like the Probability Calculator you might have seen already).

Where do I get them? »

You can make them yourself very easily. You need no more skills that it takes to use to make a Word document. Or, you can download eActivities made by others and placed on the WWW to share.

You can find them at the following places:

  • Canyons Corner
  • ClassPad.org
  • CasioEd

How do I load them? »

Using the ClassPad Manager. This is the ClassPad software you use to transfer eActivities and other items from a computer to your ClassPad and vice versa. Alternatively, if you have a ClassPad 330 access the application 'FACP1' found on the utilities disk to do this - choose the option 'Handheld Assistant' and then 'Install Add-in to ClassPads' the assistant will guide you through the process.

To to load an eActivity using the ClassPad Manager V3.0 – Use the “Exchange Window” option on your ClassPad Manager V3.0 (accessed by right-clicking on the ClassPad 300 emulator) - choose the option 'Handheld Assistant' and then 'Install Add-in to ClassPads' the assistant will guide you through the process.

Can the ClassPad be used to log data? »

Yes it can. Coupled to the Casio EA 200 and the probes that come with the EA 200 or any of the Vernier probes a powerful data logging system is formed.

The ADD-IN called ECON is required. It is the application that controls the EA-200 and also allows you to interact with the data. You can get ECON, free of charge, at ClassPad.org

What is an ADD-In? »

An ADD-In, is an application that was not in the ClassPad when manufactured. ADD-Ins are available from Casio or from third party software developers. Many excellent ADD-Ins exist.
