What is the Numerical Acumen program?
Do you believe that if students were competent at mental computation they would be more successful with mathematics as
they move up through the school years? If you do, then the Numerical Acumen program may be of interest
to you. The program aims to:
• Help you to develop the mechanical basics of a mathematical mind in each of your students
• Increase the speed at which students recall basic number facts and other mathematical facts
• Improve students' accuracy when using their brain as a calculation device
• Improve students' speed when using their brain as a calculation device.
• Improve students' understanding of when not to, and when to, use an electronic calculator.
The program provides three things:
• Concise and clear explanations of the mental strategies to be used,
• A 24/7, endless online practice environment,
• Paper-based assessment tasks; both practice and summative.
Teacher Support
Professionally produced booklets (PDF) containing concise and clear direction regarding the strategies to be used are supplied for each
unit of work. The booklets also include printable practice worksheets and an assessment for each unit. To see a sample booklet visit
Student Practice
