TAS Professional Development Workshops

TAS PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

Experience the new model ClassPad fx-CP400 and enhance your classroom teaching via its use. The sessions will be split into four parts: 1. Gettting to know the new classpad: ‘Play’ with the CP400 and experience the large, bright LCD screen, colour capabilities and upright/horizontal views. On first inspection it looks very different to the original version, but after a few minutes you will start to see the same functionality and intuitive nature of this CAS technology. We will also investigate the ‘new’ features. 2. CAS technology use in the recent 2012 Mathematical Methods examination. A selection of questions will be analysed with the intent of using the CAS technology as efficiently as possible. Other questions will be discussed that would not require the CAS technology. Knowing when to use the technology and when not to is an important part of the learning cycle. The questions chosen will give you an opportunity to explore this issue. 3. Enriching your teaching using an accessible digital technology (CAS) Use the inbuilt applications, statistics, spreadsheets, geometry to set up learning activities for your students. “How fast can fast be?”, “investigating irrational numbers”, ‘the golden ratio using your body”, “which mobile phone plan is the best?” are just some of the questions/ideas we will look at as part of this learning experience. 4. Datalogging on the new CP400. The new ClassPad has the capabilities of use a datalogger to capture experimental data. This data can be transferred to the spreadsheet or statistics application for further investigation. See how gathering of temperature, distance or sound data may be used within the classroom environment.
